Comme des Garçons‘ Rei Kawakubo has found a home for the stateside branch of Dover Street Market. The chosen state is unquestionable the coolest of them all, New York. The chosen neighborhood, on the other hand, is giving us some pause. According to WWD, Comme des Garçons “has signed a lease for a new 20,000-square-foot, seven-story emporium at 160 Lexington Avenue at 30th Street, in a district chockablock with nail parlors and Indian restaurants.” The building itself was built in 1909 and once was home to the New York School of Applied Design for Women. Although we have doubts about the location, we have no doubt that the NYC location will be much like the London and Tokyo locations, a haven for cool international designer brands. The store is set to open in December 2013.
Which NYC neighborhood would you have preferred to be the home of Dover Street Market?
