It was not too long ago, 4 years to be exact, that PETA set its sights on Bebe. The animal rights organization first went after the retailer for its production of fur garments. That battle was PETA-1, Bebe-0 as, according to Fashionista, the clothing company agreed to stop its usage of fur. But now it appears PETA is back for a second round, as they allege that Bebe continues to offer fur products to its consumers. To right what they perceive to be a wrong, PETA issued a letter, to Bebe CEO Steve Birkhold, ordering the company to cease and desist its “deceptive” practice. According to Fashionista, PETA’s letter states that Bebe is, “giving contradictory and therefore false and misleading information to consumers who contact your company about its fur-free policy – including telling consumers that Bebe is a fur-free company, when, in fact, Bebe continues to sell products made with animal fur.” It went to order that Bebe cease and desist “its false and misleading statements” in order to not force their hands to “seek judical relief.” There is no word as of yet as to Bebe’s response. As with all PETA battles, this will be interesting to watch.
