Two production companies have found themselves in a battle to produce a YSL biopic that bests the other. Mandarin Cinema is producing a film titled “Saint Laurent,” while WY Productions has titled their biopic “Yves Saint Laurent.” The film “Saint Laurent,” which starts shooting in spring, is directed by Bertrand Bonello and features Gaspard Ulliel as the lead actor. Jérémie Renier will play Pierre Bergé, and Léa Seydoux as Loulou de la Falaise. The film, according to ScreenDaily, “will focus on Yves Saint Laurent’s career between 1965 to 1976 when the designer was deemed at the peak of his powers, culminating with the 1976 Russian collection, considered by many as his most influential.” WWD, reports that, “the Bonello camp is said to have secured the services of award-winning costume designer Anaïs Romand to recreate period looks.”
As for the film titled “Yves Saint Laurent,” directed by Jalil Lespert, will star Pierre Niney and focuses on the designer’s love affair with lifelong business partner, Bergé. WWD stated that Bergé is in support of the production of “Yves Saint Laurent,” which means that “the production will have access to Saint Laurent’s former atelier and vast archives.”
