So if you thought you were content with all the beauty offerings at Target, it’s about to get even better! For all of us Target customers—or guests, as the mass market giant’s Senior Vice President José Barra prefers to call us—a trip to Target is like the days of going to Toys R Us as a child. There are so many things to touch and buy, but apparently Target execs aren’t 100% pleased with the beauty aisle. Even as one of the first mass retailers to really pay attention to the needs of those of us with textured hair, Target feels they can do more.
“We feel that [hair care is] one of the categories where some smaller brands, premium brands, will complement our assortment,” said José Barra, Senior Vice President of Merchandising for health and beauty at Target in a statement to WWD. “There are still some pockets where we’re not serving the guests as well as we want. A lot of the new developments are aimed at an older demographic.”
Natural hair brand du jour, Karen’s Body Beautiful hits select Target shelves this month, so we wonder what else is coming! It actually would be nice to see some of our favorite, higher end beauty brands along with some of our drugstore faves.
We hear that they will also be revamping their Beauty Concierge program. Similar to a department store beauty counter, it comes with a specialized beauty expert. Currently the service is only available in Chicago so we can’t wait to see where Target will take it as they makes changes through 2014.
