Before Jacob the Jeweler and Versace laced Notorious B.I.G., and Alexander Wang fitted A$AP Rocky‘s first mask, hip-hop godfather Dapper Dan was the authority on hip-hop style. Known for remixing designer looks in his Harlem Boutique, the Queens DJ customized fresh for the hottest names in the ’80s. Dapper Dan is featured in this week’s issue of The New Yorker.
If you’re unfamiliar with the name, you certainly know his work! He was responsible for fellow Queens natives’ fresh style, like LL Cool J and Salt-N-Pepa.
