Calm Down: Dolce & Gabbana Will Probably Not Have To Go To Jail

The ruling against Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana in their tax evasion case shocked us all on Wednesday– they were found guilty of skating on $1.3 billion in taxes and were sentenced to 20 months in prison. As well-respected designers and regulars at Milan Fashion Week, we all wondered how they would still create amazing collections from behind bars.

But as The Cut notes, the pair is very unlikely to actually spend time in jail. In Italy, sentences under two years are typically not actually served, but they function as a sort of slap on the wrist with a large fine attached. If the ruling stands– because their lawyers plan to appeal it– the fine will come to the tune of about  €500,000 ($668,650 USD).

As the court goes on a 140-day summer break, we’ll all just have to wait and see. Meanwhile, back at the ranch, we’re looking forward to a Spring 2014 collection from the duo.
