Over the past decade, Tyra Banks transitioned from a supermodel to businesswoman making investments in fashion related ventures. Her new investment is the first through her company, Fierce Capital LLC that was created to support female-owned start-ups. Their first venture: The Hunt.
The website allows for visitors looking for a specific item seen on a social media site, celebrity or random photo, to be able to search the item and potentially buy it. “What I love about The Hunt is that women help other women find their perfect outfit [head-to-toe],” Banks told WWD. “It truly sucks to discover a great style item but not be able to find and buy it. The Hunt solves that fashion dilemma in a fun and innovative way. I am excited to be part of this new approach to collective retail and styling.”
Started by two tech entrepreneurs, Tim Weingarten and Simon Peck, the site launched in January and hopes to garner more funds for engineers and designers. Banks, in addition to Ashton Kutcher, have not only given money but advice on how to gain a solid community of visitors online.
Weingarten is excited about the high-profile partnership. “She [Banks] intends to be extremely active and in no way a passive investor. From her acumen in style and fashion to her intuitive and innate sense on how the community should be guided over time, she has lots of ideas.”
