Africa Fashion Week London ended Aug 3 but the fashion shown is still creating a buzz all over the globe. Countries represented at the three day event were Nigeria, Ghana, South Africa, Congo, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Kenya and Morocco — but also Britain and the Caribbean were represented. As expected the diverse array of clothing and accessories designer goods brought a unique vibrancy native to the continent.

The fashion week is in its third year, and is held at the hip Shoreditch district of London. The main objective of organizing the event was and is to bring international attention to the 100+ designers who would otherwise be overlooked by a segregationist industry. Presentations included Thula Sindi, Rya-V Jewellery, Ruuts Arts and Creation, Lollyade and many more notables. To find out more about the yearly event, go here.

Some of these materials look really good and unique but the designs are too overwork. Sometimes simplicity works best when you have unique materials to work with. Maybe this overworked designs work well for the African market but the western markets are not use to that. With that being said, I hope that African designers continue to get better.
