Jason Wu’s Next Up to Design Affordable Line for Target (Lady O’ Wore his Gown to the 2009 Inaugural Ball!)

Following the success of the Missoni for Target line, which launched on September 8th, crashed target.com and sold out in 24-hours (on the opening day of sales), Jason Wu is up next to partner with the mass retailer to create an affordable capsule collection for Target’s Go International program. The world came to know the womenswear designer back in 2009 when First Lady, Michelle Obama, wore his elegant one shoulder gown to the Inaugural Ball.

Wu told WWD, “The exciting thing about this limited edition collection of affordable women’s wear and accessories is that it allows me to reach a wider audience and bring my designs to people who may not have been able to purchase them before,” said Wu. “My collection for Target is chic and wearable. I think women everywhere will enjoy it.” He continues, “This partnership offers an exciting opportunity for me to interpret my aesthetic into a collection made for a broader market,” he said. “It was very interesting for me to translate my signature touches into a more affordable collection without compromising quality, design and sophistication. My collection for Target features clothes and accessories that are easily convertible from day to evening — sophisticated, feminine dresses, mix-and-match separates and playful accessories all with a bit of charm and dressed-up attitude.” Sounds exciting!

A release date has yet to be unveiled but when it is, we’ll be sure to plug you in. Stay tuned… In the meantime, turn the page to see various angels of Lady O in her glamorous Jason Wu gown.
