Burberry’s Christopher Bailey just went from approving sketches to big ballin’ with businessmen. This morning he was announced as Burberry’s new CEO with the departure of Angela Ahrendts, who will be joining Apple as their new senior vice-president of retail and online stores.
Bailey has been with the British brand since 2001 coming in as a creative director then promoted to chief creative director in 2009. Him and Ahrendts are noted for transforming Burberry from a stuffy raincoats brand into a contemporary lifestyle company. Under his belt are two “Designer of the Year” nods from the British Fashion Awards and an MBE (Member of the Order of the British Empire) distinction from Queen Elizabeth II.
Congrats to both fashion veterans in their new positions! They will assume their roles in 2014.
