Stuart Weitzman is celebrating the 20th anniversary of the iconic 50/50 boots with a digital pop-up shop on Gilt that started today. The sale, which features many Gilt-exclusive styles such as the $10,000 Swarovski-crystal encrusted leopard print 50/50 boot pictured above (Stuart Weitzman jokingly called it the 5,000/5,000), is comprised of 20 styles and will last for 20 days so long as the items hold out. Or as Gilt put it, “20 years, 20 styles, 20 days.”
In an exclusive video where Gilt interviewed Stuart, he mentioned that he was inspired to create the 50/50 boots 20 years ago because at the time short skirts were in and he wanted to create a high-boot look that was more elegant than the tacky thigh-high Julia Roberts in “Pretty Woman” look. And the 50/50 trend has been going strong ever since.
Part of the boot’s allure is that they pair so well with most outfits and are extremely comfortable to wear all day long. Any shoe where you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for style is definitely a cause for celebration in our book. Here’s to another 20 years of 50/50s!
