Ever heard of Priyanka Chopra? Well you’re about to learn all about her. The Bollywood actress and former Miss World winner just shot a 2013 holiday campaign with photographer Bryan Adams–yep, the musician–for Guess. “I’m like their first brown model. For a global fashion brand, for them to move their campaign into a global space, for me it’s an honor,” said Chopra to WWD.
Chopra’s Guess campaign came about all thanks to her hairstylist who introduced her to Paul Marciano–she reminded him of Angelina Jolie–and he instantly knew she was his next Guess girl, telling her, “You’re it. It has to be you.”
When working with musician/photographer Bryan Adams–apparently he’s huge in India–the vibe of the photoshoot was “young Sophia Loren” and Chopra says she “I wanted to play characters, and I wanted to be in the mood. I wanted every picture to speak of a story.” As you’ll see below, the images definitely evoke a sense of retro glamour mixed with classic Guess s*x appeal.
Chopra, who has been acting in Bollywood films for 10 years, also has an album coming out via Interscope in spring 2014 and it seems like she’s ready to take on America. She told WWD, “It’s scary, but I grew up partly here too. So I’m an amalgamation of both the East and West. I’m not too American and I’m not too Indian, but I’m a global citizen, and that’s what most people are today. And I don’t want to have to change who I am to try and fit in or cater to a certain audience.”
Beautiful with a great head on her shoulders? Role model alert! (She was even studying to be an engineer and wanted to work at NASA before all of this show biz stuff.) Click through to check out some shots from Priyanka’s Guess campaign; you’ll start to see it in magazines in December.
