In what is, perhaps, the most unexpected art-meets-fashion mash-up of the year, you can now purchase a mini celebrity lipstick sculpture, aka Lady Gaga’s face carved into an actual Mac lipstick. That’s all thanks to the creative mind that is May Sum–a multi-media artist and Asia’s first lipstick sculptor.
Sum hails from Hong Kong and just recently wrapped up a touring exhibition displaying her lipstick throughout Asia. Its theme was “Fashion Icon” and for it she carved the faces of celebs such as Madonna, Lady Gaga, Coco Chanel, Diana (Princess of Wales), Twiggy, Kate Moss, Viviane Westwood, Sussie Bubble, Anna Wintour, Iris Apfel, and Victoria Beckham into little tubes of lipstick–designs which are all up for sale right now.
On her Etsy page, Sum recounts that each piece takes about 10-12 hours to complete, which is a real testament to her artistry and concentration. If it were us, we’d probably give up around the five-minute mark and just start testing out each color of lipstick to find out our new favorite shade. But hey, we can’t all be artists can we?
If you’re interested in purchasing a little bit of lipstick art, you can head to May Sum’s Etsy store and either choose a celebrity you love or send her a photo of yourself to carve. Let us warn you, good art doesn’t come cheap and neither do these lipsticks: Just one tube will cost you around $620.
If that price isn’t right there’s always the DIY option: You, in the kitchen, with a bobby pin and a Lip Smacker.
