Maxim may have named Miley Cyrus the hottest celebrity of the year—bolstering her climb to sit with pop’s juggernauts—but GQ magazine is seeking to cut her off at the knees. The men’s magazine released their third annual list of the least influential celebrities of 2013, with the pop star listed as number 6.
According to the Huffington Post, the magazine listed Cyrus in the top 10 for “basically trying every inane strategy she could think of to rile up America’s few remaining pearl clutchers.” The magazine also noted “what’s sad is that it totally worked.”
Our question is, if her antics worked, wouldn’t that negate the claim that her star power doesn’t have an influential pull? Don’t get us wrong, we’re not exactly foam finger wearing fans of the pop star, but we do believe Miley should be given her dues. And as much as it may pain us to say, Miley has made her mark on 2013 and many are watching for what she does come 2014.
Whether you view it as negative or not, one thing is sure she does have an influence—especially in the pop arena, which is evident in the new youtube record set by her ‘Wrecking Ball’ video; the fact that she has appeared on every music award show since the start of the year; and not to mention that a ‘Miley story’ is guaranteed to get the public talking (case in point: her not-so-flattering spot on GQ‘s list and our response).
