Well, it’s here. The moment no one has really been waiting for but one we’ll talk about nonetheless: The 2013 Kardashian Christmas card just debuted last night–and it is quite the spectacle. While the Kardashian-Jenner clan normally looks to family friend Nick Saglimbeni to take their Christmas card photo, this year they decided to go in a different direction and enlist the work of David LaChapelle–who just happens to be a Kanye favorite.
The photo-shoot looks like something of a ransacked nightmare carnival of riches featuring the ladies of the Kardashian-Jenner family (and Bruce and Mason) presiding over the damaged room in a variety of wannabe surreal and random poses. The Daily Mail reports that LaChapelle said of his vision, “‘It will definitely be something really unexpected. On a deeper level [it] will say something about the time and place where we live.”
A close look at the photo reveals some clues into his mindset: Kendall and Kylie are standing over ruined tabloids, Bruce’s Wheatie’s box makes an appearance, as does an Illuminati pyramid, fame graffiti, dollar signs, and other indicators of celebrity and materialism.
LaChapelle originally wanted just the women in the family–the “matriarchs” he called them–but poor Bruce apparently refused to be left out of the picture (oh, you can’t find him? He’s in that tube on the far right), and Kourtney saw no reason to leave Mason out either so LaChapelle draped him over a chair in front of Khloe, because, why not?
All in all we’re a bit confused by the shoot–and there’s not even a hint of Christmas in it–but at least everyone looks good in all black.
