When he’s not guest editing the luxury issue of the German broadsheet Welt am Sonntag or seeing his brand expand their presence in Boston, Karl Lagerfeld is playing muse. The latest product to invoke the kaiser’s visage is a customized Rolex watch.
Now on sale in Lagerfeld’s flagship boutiques in Paris and Munich, the limited-edition piece is actually a customized Rolex Oyster Perpetual Milgauss. The original Oyster Perpetual Milgauss was introduced to the market by Rolex in the 1950s, which was around the time Lagerfeld got his start in the fashion world, then at Parisian-based Balmain.
The renowned London-based watch customizer Bamford Watch Department has taken the original design, rendered it in black, and added a few Lagerfeld nods–a silhouette of the designer is at the seven o’clock position, his signature alongside the bottom, and a miniaturized Lagerfeld pattern appears on the face of the timepiece. For the pricey figure of $25,820, you can own a bit of Lagerfeld yourself.
