Come tomorrow, January 6th, our gaze will be fixed across the pond as we look to London as they gear up for their menswear shows. According to the Guardian, more than 50 designers and brands are set to show their autumn/winter 2014 collection. This season is said to be the biggest yet as London is luring all the big names away from Milan and back to into its arms. “Tom Ford has made London the home for his men’s collection, and Burberry brought its menswear show back from Milan last season, after 10 years away.” Although London Collections: Men is said to still be in its infancy, it is also helping to pull attention back to London as a fashion force. The Guardian reports that it generates £40m of media coverage. Overall, menswear in the UK is experiencing growth, “the sector is worth £10.4bn, and has grown by 12% over the past five years.” It is “expected to continue until 2017, with a rise of 11% predicted .” We have high hopes for the designers that will be showing during London Collections: Men. We expect to see continuations of the major spring/summer 2014 trends in autumn/winter appropriate fabrics. We suspect designers will continue with floral and large block stripes, which were present on Prada, Dries Von Noten, Moschino and Miharayasuhiro’s runway. It certainly would be interesting to see more floral printed suited– a la Gucci’s rendition– done in winter floral. We also expect to see more 50’s influence as we are not sure fashion is through with its current Beat Generation obsession.
Are there any menswear trends you would like to see on the runways at London Collections: Men?
