Can’t nobody tell Miley Cyrus nothing. She’s twerked her way from the VMAs into the public’s minds (and into some of our hearts) and we can’t stop talking about her. And now the face and body that launched a thousand bits of rhetoric about twerking and the youth of the nation look covered up in the classically elegant disheveled look Marc Jacobs does so well. Because Miley is the new face of the Spring 2014 Marc Jacobs campaign.
Though this does seems extremely surprising–we actually have no real reasons to be surprised. Miley has definitely upped her style game over the past year, not all attempts worked out but she’s trying. And she and Marc are fans of each other. Marc even told WWD, “We all just love her and her entire being, her energy, her talent, her intelligence, everything. There’s nothing I don’t like about her. She is just genuine and very natural.”
Not everyone is big Miley fan though and there was some drama over who would shoot the campaign. Photographer Juergen Teller, who shoots pretty much all the Marc Jacobs collections campaigns, actually refused to shoot Miley for Marc–the reason is still unknown. Maybe he’s just not a fan of twerking or something. In any case, that opened up the job for David Sims who did a great job capturing the moody essence of Miley and her two beach-going friends.
