Days 1 and 2 of Paris Men’s Fashion Week brought out various iterations of historical men: the soldier and the cowboy. Various successful efforts were made to class the styles up a bit, and luxurious fabrics and smart detailing and patterns did just that. Smooth leathers, warm furs, and always-cool utilitarian looks set the standard for a very stylish crop of men come next fall and winter.

Day 1: Valentino
In this Fall/Winter 2014 collection, design duo Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Picciolo sought to match tradition with modernity, making an effortless wardrobe for men next winter. Relaxed classic silhouettes injected a youthful feeling into the luxurious piece–luxury and couture being the name of the game for Valentin menswear this season. The color palette consisted of the “masculine” colors of indigio, blue, gray, camel, and felt. The introduction of camouflage and a workman-like bodysuit added a contrast to the tailored suits and overcoats (some with incredible prints) in the collection.
