It seemed like magazines were never going to put supermodels back on the covers, but looking at recent trends, models are appearing more and more on celebrity territory.
The December issue of V Magazine features four different covers, all featuring a pair of models of diverse ethnic background for their colorful theme. The covers were styled by Carine Roitfield and photographed by Terry Richardson. Supermodel in the making – Joan Smalls is included in the model mayhem along with Daphne Groeneveld and Saskia de Brauw; Sui He and Hanaa Ben Abdesslem, and Bambi Northwood-Blyth and Lindsey Wixson.
Stylist on set, Carine Roitfield made an extended effort to cast a diverse group of models who represent the new generation of supermodels. “These eight girls are unique, not one is like the other,” Roitfeld told WWD. “Candice is the only blonde and blue-eyed of this new generation of supermodels. Joan is black, Sui He is Asian, Hanna is North African. It’s their diversity that makes each of them, to me, truly modern. They bring a new energy to fashion.”
In a new age, it’s refreshing to see one, the return of the supermodel, and two a diverse representation of women, someone for everyone.
