Hello, award season! Red carpets mean wardrobe hits (and misses) and a time when celeb stylists are in high demand (and under a lot of pressure). Currently serving as Exclusive Brand Stylist for Kate Spade New York, Brad Goreski (formerly Rachel Zoe’s assistant) is known for his work with A-listers like Jessica Alba, Christina Ricci, Stacy Keibler, Demi Moore, Minka Kelly and Rashida Jones.
Brad teamed up with Suave Professionals® Moroccan Infusion Body Care to show women how to achieve beautifully silky, radiant skin — on the red carpet and off. In an exclusive interview, the talented TV personality dished on his favorite Grammys looks, trends he can live without and what he thinks the future Mrs. Kim Kardashian West should wear to her third wedding.
StyleBlazer: Who was the best dressed at the GRAMMYs?
Brad Goreski: Taylor Swift, for me, was definitely the best dressed. Her look from head to toe was just really well put together. The side bang, loose ponytail was really youthful and cool. I loved the eye makeup with a hint of metallic in the corner of the eye. The big Lorraine Schwartz diamond earrings and that gown! It was a showstopper. The t-shirt style looked really young and fresh and she looked like a big star.
SB: Was there anyone on the carpet who could have dressed better?
BG: I love the music award shows because there are so many risk takers and people who think outside the box that don’t care if they get best dressed or worst dressed. I’m a huge fan of Madonna, but I would love to see Madonna do something super glam and romantic and just give a gorgeous Queen of Pop look.
SB: What’s your favorite trend at the moment?
BG: I love the metallic trend. We saw a lot of that [on GRAMMYs night]. I think it works very well on the carpet in many different forms. It adds an instant glamour.
SB: How about a least favorite trend, or one you’re ready to be done with?
BG: There’s been so much black coming through recently. I’ve also been guilty of using a lot of it. I’m ready for lots more color, lots more glamour, lots more glitter.
SB: What’s a great day-to-date outfit for this cold weather going on in the northeast?
BG: I think everyone should have a coat that is functional but also fashionable. I think that would be the coat that you bust out. Whether that’s in a bright color, a fun pattern, a great fabric, a flattering fit. Underneath that, tights are obviously going to be essential but believe it or not, the look I’m loving right now is kind of ’90s and very Clueless. It’s a sort of mock turtleneck to show off the upper half of your body and a small, short, kick-pleat skirt. I think that’s a cute look and a great way to stay warm in the cold weather. If you’re going from a desk to a date, that shows off your body a little bit.
SB: How would you style Kim Kardashian for her wedding if given the opportunity?
BG: I think she’s going to have a really big high fashion moment. My guess would be that Givenchy makes her wedding dress. I would actually keep it on the simple side. She’s a beautiful girl and I would give her a very dramatic veil and train.
SB: What advice do you have for people who want to be celebrity stylists or follow in your footsteps?
BG: For me, it was really about starting at the bottom and working your way up. I learned from everybody that I worked for in the past. It’s important to intern at different places, assist different people. Once you find someone that you gel with, stick around for a while. Assisting someone for a year, you can learn a lot, but sticking around for a couple years is definitely more useful. Once you go out on your own, you’re going to have to learn the ropes all over again. Just keep believing in your talent and work as hard as you possibly can.
