Well, we didn’t see this coming. Rapper Cam’ron is trying to make capes happen. On men. While it’s not a style we often see outside of the superhero/vampire genre, Cam’ron’s new line of capes designed in partnership with Mark McNairy could put the style back on the map–remember what he did for dudes in pink?
Complex reports that the collaboration is made up of four cape styles: a Harris Tweed cape with fur lining, a flannel cape with satin lining, a camo cape with yellow mesh lining, and a black wool cape with quilted lining–all of which sport the Dipset USA or Diplomats logo on them, lest you forget who dressed you.
To celebrate his cape line’s debut, Cam’ron walked the runway with future wifey Juju at today’s Mark McNairy show earlier this afternoon. And let’s not get it twisted, he wasn’t nervous about walking the catwalk for the first time. Cam’ron told Complex before the show, “I mean, the thing is with me, my life is a catwalk. Everything is a catwalk for me. I walk to the store and that’s a catwalk. So to me, this is pretty much easy. I’m excited actually.”
He also spoke about the sale of the capes, though he didn’t know exactly when the public can actual buy them. But he did say that the streets have had them for about 10 days, which isn’t really useful information at all. In any case, it seems that Killa Cape Season has arrived at New York Fashion Week in a big way. We wonder if the other celebs in attendance like style star Victor Cruz will be donning a Cam’ron cape anytime soon? (Probably not…)
We’re so over this polar vortex that we’re thinking more swimwear than capes right now, but as Cam’ron says himself, “Hate now, cape later.”
