Torrid has long been a top retailer for plus-size fashion, but with their newest campaign, it’s clear that the brand is looking for some attention from the mainstream side as well. Australian model Georgina Burke has been tapped as the first-ever face of the plus-size line– which will be featured on the cover of their swimsuit catalogue, website and in-stores.
The partnership is one of the first major plus-size ad campaign that fashion has seen in a long time, and the 23-year old model isn’t hesitating to use this platform to represent curvy women throughout the industry. “Sixty-eight percent of women in America are over size 12. Why can’t we be put in the magazine as well? Who’s to say we aren’t good enough to be in there? What’s wrong with putting me as the face of a company or using us [plus-size women] in a magazine or putting us out there in a fashionable way?”
Burke’s message is clear with her stance in making fashion a more inclusive industry. And hopefully more big-name retailers take note from this campaign and begin to show more diverse models. But we’re pretty sure we’ll be seeing and hearing more from this Australian beauty in the future.
