Carine Roitfeld styled the SS14 campaign for Louis Vuitton that is generating a good amount of buzz. Titled “Spirit of Travel” the Peter Lindbergh-shot ads feature models Karen Elson and Edie Campbell in South Africa.
If we can all just have a collective moment of honesty: Wouldn’t it be an absolute dream to casually traipse around in the wild while totting luxury leather goods? No. Somehow we see the appeal.
“It’s a mix of travel and the fashion world,” Frédéric Winckler, Vuitton’s communications and events director told WWD. The ads, which will make April debuts in major magazines, feature spring runway looks in addition to two new styles of their classic monogrammed bags.
Likened to the work of Jean Larivière, whose photography highlighted the illustrious travel heritage of the brand, the pieces blend with the setting in a remarkable way. And what’s even more impressive is that the interaction with the animals was not manipulated. That’s right, Elson was really feeding that giraffe a leaf.
We can look forward to more images from the campaign in an online film coming soon.
