La La La La La. Warm it up. It seems like forever since Kelis has rocked our world with her unique style and catchy tunes like “Milkshake” and “Bossy.” Now, the songstress has exploded back on the scene pushing a new album, Food, and flossing her bona fide chef skills on a new cooking show. But what truly sent us over the edge is her latest feature on The Coveteur.
It’s true, before Rihanna got bad or Beyonce went solo, we looked to Kelis for hype hair and hot and heavy fashion moments. The Coveteur got a chance to hit up the singer’s Los Angeles abode, where she turned her guest house into the ultimate clothing warehouse walk-in closet, housing everything from John Galliano’s first collection and Alexander McQueen’s last collection to vintage Louis Vuitton and Chanel.
If fashion is art, Kelis must be using her guest house as a museum. See below for her explanation of her life-long affair with fashion:
On her first designer splurge: “My first ever designer splurge was a pair of pink thigh-high Giuseppe Zanotti boots.”
On her personal style: “I did have my closet [custom] built. I would describe my style as emotional and themed.”
On her infamous animal inspired look: “Because I dress based on emotions, I don’t have [style] moments that I hate. I once had this pink latex body suit made and Alexander McQueen huff shoe on and made myself into an animal.”
