What she presented for those A-listers and her other guests was stereotypical Miuccia: a conversation starter. Was Miu Miu the antithesis of the ongoing normcore trend, or was it high street’s answer? Are there women who would actually consider shunning trousers for an entire season? Is fashion for fashion’s sake passé?
For Fall 2014 Miu Miu slanted towards utility; this meant pastel nylon jackets, sensible rain boots, and full-length raincoats. Hems for the most part–read: every look since each ensemble contained either a dress or a skirt–stayed high on the thigh, leaving legs bare all the way down to strappy heels that came off as youthful and dainty.
As with many other designers this season, Miu Miu did have the requisite fur offerings, one standout option being a shearling statement coat, but the collection was distinctly and decidedly set apart from the rest of the season’s shows. Glitz found its way into sweaters via lurex threads before blossoming into embellishments on mini-dresses for evenings. Even the quilted nylon jackets themselves took on a bit of the sheen, morphing into beautifully printed statement coats with the shine to match.
