Yes, we were indeed just talking about 10 things that Pharrell has already done in 2014 that impress us, and it seems he took it as a cue to embark on the next 10. First up, a “long-term collaboration” with Adidas, announced via the teaser video shown below featuring customized Stan Smiths and Pharrell’s now famed Vivienne Westwood ‘Mountain’ hat.
Having sent tongues wagging when he wore a red Adidas’ classic Firebird Jacket, the collaboration has been understandably months in the making. The “Happy” producer went on to wear the jacket on a German talk show, on the Oscars stage and in an Instagram photo by WWD’s count, and is now revealing that he’s next in line following Raf Simons, Yohji Yamamoto and Rick Owens, to design with Adidas. Don’t worry though, the aforementioned designers’ collaborations aren’t in danger.
“[It’s] an amazing opportunity to work with creative people who understand where I’m coming from and respect my taste while having access to great technology and an amazing brand history,” Pharrell told WWD.
The collaboration, which will make it’s debut this summer and continue over “the next few years,” according to Williams, will feature fabric from his Bionic Yarn textile company, which recycles ocean trash into fabric.
The move, for Adidas, is likely another integral one in the ongoing chess play with rival brand Nike. The latter having recently released a limited-edition collaboration with Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci, the name of the game currently is high-profile collaborations.
