“I’m not dying yet,” Giuseppe Zanotti told WWD when asked about why he didn’t create a retrospective book about his 20 year anniversary. “A retrospective book feels sad. I thought it was nice to show the cardinal point of my profession with this collection. Every sandal has a name, and every name is a memory.”
Excited as ever, the veteran designer plans on celebrating in a much more modern way– with four capsule collections within the next year, each with a distinct theme. The first will be the “Jewel” collection of all gold flat and heeled sandals. That collection will debut in June and following will be the “Rock ’n’ Roll,” “Black Stilettos” and “Disco” collections in September, November and February 2015 respectively.
Starting from humble beginnings, Zanotti spent the past two decades finding his voice in the footwear market and then molding it to fit the needs of consumers. From stilettos, to the more recent sneakers, the designer has developed with the times. And his new deal with L Capital, the investment arm of LVMH Moët Hennessy Louis Vuitton, that plans to acquire a 30 percent stake in Giuseppe Zanotti Design, will keep him steady for years to come.
So what else is there to do? Obviously, celebrate and keep making magic!
