Instead of debuting her Spring 2015 bridal collection via the typical runway show like the rest of the bridal designer crew did last week, Vera Wang instead chose to create a short fashion video to showcase her 18 new creations in an edgier, more contemporary way, which was better suited to share the collection’s mood, she told Women’s Wear Daily.
That mood is a sensual one, tinged with a slight darkness and mystery. Four brides–really just women–meander around an empty, dark old Italian estate in their pristine gowns as a foreboding track provides the somewhat gloomy soundtrack. (“Easy” by Son Lux, if you’re interested.)
Wang was trying to move away from the typical bride tropes and show a different side to her gowns, which don’t need to be considered de facto wedding gowns just because of their color, she says. She told WWD, “This is not about the big veil and a bouquet of beautiful flowers, which, of course, we still use [in weddings]. This is a new way to look at bridal. It’s more contemporary.” She continued, “I don’t think of bridal anymore as a niche. Hopefully, people will realize that these dresses can be worn for anything. They just happen to be white.”
The mood and mystery of the film owe some inspiration to the closeness of the Brontë Sisters. Take a look in the video below and click through for five of our favorite dresses from the Vera Wang Spring 2015 bridal collection, which you can view in its entirety here on Pinterest.
