Rachel Roy has filed a lawsuit against the Jones Apparel Group, after the company sold her now-defunct business to Bluestar Alliance for $14.6 million– a move that allegedly was done without her consent. The lawsuit comes a month after Jones shuttered her eponymous label.

As WWD reports, Roy claims the sale to Bluestar was a breach of a contractual agreement and was done “free and clear” of the designer’s approval rights. Roy who began her relationship with Jones in 2008, was not privy to the recent sale and was unclear of her involvement in the design process/running of company or if she would even be involved.

The lawsuit says that Roy’s “rights to creative control and approval of designs were non-negotiable conditions of the business relationship” when they were initially drafted. Roy also claims in the lawsuit that the sale was done in the midst of other interested parties inquiring about buying her assets.

While Roy is fighting to protect her name and high-end line, she still has control over her Rachel Rachel Roy diffusion line sold at Macy’s.
