Growing up in Los Angeles already sounds like a charmed life to many of us East Coasters, but having a famous mom who was once a Guess model and a stepdad, David Foster, who has produced music for some of the most famous people in the industry–Michael Jackson, Celine Dion, Whitney Houston, and Mariah Carey, included–just adds more glitter to the glitz. Suffice it to say that Gigi Hadid is one pretty lucky chick, especially considering how her modeling career is taking off so far.
The 19-year-old, who appeared on some episodes of “Real Housewives of Beverly Hills,” (her mom, Yolanda Foster, was a cast member), already has some major success under her belt, including the cover of Carine Roitfeld’s fashion magazine, CR Fashion Book, a campaign alongside Patrick Schwarzenegger for Tom Ford, and being named a Rookie of the Year for Sports Illustrated.
These moments may have been a long time coming. Gigi has been in front of the camera pretty much her whole life, she told Women’s Wear Daily in a new interview. Check out some of what she revealed about her career below.
On modeling her whole life: I was always in front of the camera. My mom was really passionate about photography — I have pictures of my whole life. I’ve always just been in front of my mom’s camera and it’s always comfortable to me.
On how she ended up on the cover of CR Fashion Book: Stephen Gan asked IMG who he should meet for the shoot — and if he was meeting with one, who that person should be and [they] said me. Stephen was shooting and he had me meet Carine and that was it.
On the best advice she got from Carine Roitfeld: The one thing she told me that was the biggest in my mind was our third shoot together. She asked me, “Are you happy today?” and I said, “Yeah, of course, I’m so excited to be here.” She said, “OK, in this job you have to be happy all the time. You have to love what you’re doing.”
