We love a celebrity whose style we can be inspired by, but it’s the fashion and beauty editors and bloggers who we really love to take style cues from. Take for instance fashion editor, Rajni Jacques, formerly of Glamour and Nylon magazine. The Coveteur recently visited her at her Brooklyn home to unearth not only some amazing pieces from her closet, but also the artwork that she creates in her spare time. Amongst her Louis Vuitton and Burberry jackets and Balenciaga shoes, Rajni finds comfort and style in jeans and keeps her beauty routine simple yet elegant. She dished to The Coveteur on her style evolution.
On how she travels:
“I’m such a light packer—I hate being bogged down with unnecessary things. I like to pack versatile items (clothing) that I can mix and match with everything. It’s amazing how many outfits you can make with just ten key pieces. When it comes to clothing, I always bring a pair of high-waisted jeans, Nike Air Max’s, Vans, a classic pump and a crop top.”
On her personal style:
“My day-to-day style is rooted in the basics—jeans and a tee—and I amp up the look with heels and great bag. My outfit usually comes together by first choosing the shoe. I get in a shoe mood and then build from there. But when it comes to evening, I love to dress up and play the part—in a very Rajni way. The higher the heel and the sleeker the dress, [the closer to] perfection. Team it with a moto jacket and the look is always fresh.”
On who influences her style:
“My daytime style crushes are Jane Birkin, Emmanuelle Alt, Lauren Hutton and pretty much anyone who wears jeans 24/7. And my nighttime (evening wear) icons are Diana Ross, Grace Jones, Lena Horne, Donyale Luna and, yeah I’ll say it, Rihanna.”
On how to prepare your Fashion Week style:
“We all know that when Fashion Week comes around, it’s time to wear your best stuff. But the thing is, if you feel uncomfortable in what you have on—meaning, if what you’re wearing, wears you—it will be noticeable. So wear what you feel most confident in. You can even smile!”
On her beauty routine:
“As far as makeup goes, I always dress my face up with a red lip and black eyeliner. Then I put a bit of Bobbi Brown blush on my cheeks to top off the look. Traveling light makes me feel like I can move easily and get up and go at the drop of a dime.”
We definitely wouldn’t mind relishing in Rajni’s closet! Read on for some of the stylish pieces The Coveteur captured at the fashion editor’s home.
