She’s beat it in our heads like a stone gavel: Kendall Jenner wants to be taken seriously. The reality star turned model has had insane success over the past year since venturing into the world of high fashion– despite her debut into the mainstream world she’s been taken seriously by designers who book her regularly.
The Cut asked her about her half sister Kim Kardashian and how she affects her “seriousness.” When asked by the publication about her support, Kendall said Kim has been “invited to a lot of the shows that I was in” but will not be in the audience. Why? Because the 18-year-old doesn’t want her there.
“She called me before and was like, ‘Hey I was invited to the show, I just wanted to let you know. Do you want me to come?’ and I was like, ‘No.'” Adding, “[I’ve] had to work harder… I want to be high fashion. I want to be taken seriously. People think that this [success] just came to me. But it didn’t. What I have has almost worked against me.”
What can’t be hidden is Kim’s clear impact on the opportunities she’s be given. Balmain, Chanel, Marc Jacobs, Givenchy, Vogue, Teen Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar— the doors opened for her are something other girls work years to achieve.
While we’re not huge fans of Kimmy K, we do think that Kendall should consider the hand that fed her. And at least let her sit for a show.
