Tomas Maier’s namesake has been getting quite of bit of arguably due lip service. He wasn’t really talked about much before but 2014 was a big press year for him. And by the looks of his latest collection for Bottega Veneta, it’s gone to his head.
When that phrase is normally quoted, it’s derisive. It’s connoted as having to do with hubris, and normally that’s what has happened. But here, we say it as a means of added confidence. As a means of stepping into one’s own.
Booted Veneta has always played things sort of true to codes, going in sort of gradual shifts, always loyal to a certain customer. But this season Maier, with a bi to added wind in his chest, pushed for newer, seemingly more trend focused territory. The coats were big, bold, and enviable. Plaid prints, need punched fabrics and even a lace dress for evening amongst the stand outs. This is definitely not your mother’s Veneta!
