This is not Galliano’s Dior.
That seemed a point that Raf Simons wanted to drive home at the Fall 2015 presentation. It’s pretty apt timing! Now that Galliano is holding court at Margiela, now is a good a point as ever to show how far Raf Simons has pushed the brand from the ornate, wasp-waisted sometimes bone structured days of Galliano with his excess and artistic whims. These are clothes, day to night, live-in, work-in, go to lunch and then go out to party, clothes. These are not the costumes of eras past.
Would John Galliano ever look to a new movie as inspiration? No. He was a designer always looking back for inspiration while this season Simons looks to fifty Shades of Grey for touch points. Yes, you read that right. Dior does Fifty Shades. It was dark in palette and sexual in cut.
Dior isn’t typically very sexual. The curves of the woman at molded by a bar jacket, her hems could be typically described as… well prim. Here Simons brought out a body stocking, thigh-high vinyl boots and more. Cut high on that hem good sir, there’s a little more skin to be shown.
