Marc Jacobs says age is not a number when it comes to beauty, style or talent.
That is why we were not surprised when he teamed up with 69-year-old Cher for the Fall campaign. However, he is now teaming up with Willow Smith, the 14-year-old daughter of Will Smith and Jada Pinkett-Smith for the same campaign.
Sharing the news on his Instagram page, Jacobs also revealed the long list of celebs that have inspired him over the years, from Miley Cyrus to Jessica Lange.
“Ever since our first Juergen Teller ad in 1998 which featured Kim Gordon on stage wearing my dress, I have always preferred collaborating with the people who inspire me to give new life to the clothes we show on our runway.
Over the years we have photographed an incredibly diverse and exceptional group of talented friends and individuals who I greatly admire: Victoria Beckham, Jamie Bochert, Jarvis Cocker, Sofia Coppola, Miley Cyrus, Dakota Fanning, William Eggleston, Jessica Lange, Jennifer Jason Leigh, Stephen Malkmus, Samantha Morton, Kate Moss, Charlotte Rampling, Winona Ryder, Stephanie Seymour, Cindy Sherman, Michael Stipe, and Rufus Wainwright, just to name a few. Beauty, style and talent know no age. It is those individuals whose creativity, unique vision, and voice inspire all of us here to create and express ourselves through our medium: fashion.
Photographed by David Sims, this season’s ads feature friends, each of whom evoke a sense of intrigue and inspiration and collectively provoke a true consideration for individuality.
Here today I would like to share (not CHER) with you first, the talented, stylish and charming Willow Smith @gweelos
Stay tuned over the coming weeks for more…”
Smith is photographed in the same style as Cher, in a very goth-inspired campaign, wearing the same pleated black skirt with sheer insets and paired with a sequined top coat. Looking like a puppet, Smith is seated on a stool, with her head tilted to the side and a hand on her hip.
While you might not agree with everything Willow says, there is no denying that she is one cool and stylish teenager, with her fresh perspective on fashion. In her recent interview with the CR Fashion Book, Willow said, “I think my look changes all of the time and right now it’s a bit more messy, kind of grungy.”
We can not wait to see what else Jacobs has up his sleeve for his latest fashion campaign.
