Just ask Tory Burch, who is the latest designer to add a sports line to their fashion empire.
In an interview with Vogue, Burch revealed her plans for Tory Sport, a collection of “tennis ensembles, sleek tracksuits, surfwear, golfwear, and all manner of avant- and après-sport clothes.”
To introduce her customers to her new line of fitness clothing, Burch will also be transforming her Manhattan flagship store into a Tory Sport pop up shop during New York Fashion Week.
For a designer whose goal has always been to provide beautiful clothing that don’t cost a fortune, a sports line seems like a natural addition to the everyday woman’s wardrobe.
And while athleisure is everywhere, Burch does not see it like a trend. “It really seemed like a change in the way women were dressing,” said of fitness clothing. “I started to think, How do we make this stuff chic again? What a lot of sports brands miss is femininity, unless it’s a garish femininity in the form of exposed body parts and neon colors. I was thinking more The Royal Tenenbaums.”
And the collection is just that. A perfect combination of aesthetics and function, there are neoprene wetsuit with floral side panels, tracksuits with flared legs and bags with pockets for water bottles and sunscreen.
Two years in the making, now this is one sports line we are excited to see.
