Manhattan has its first mega-mall at One World Trade Center.
We had the pleasure of touring the space, managed by Westfield Corporation that has interests in 35 shopping centers in the United States and the UK. The insanely large 365,000 square feet space holds 100 global and local brands, including Forever 21, Kiehl’s, COS, and PAPYRUS.
“We hope this new location will add convenience for both our new and existing customers in the area and provide them with a wide selection of on-trend merchandise at an exceptional value,” said Linda Chang, Forever 21 Vice President of Merchandising about their 16,000 sure foot space. “Given the nature of the New York consumer, World Trade Center is the perfect store to provide this wider range of clothing and brands catering to New York’s savvy shoppers.”
Kiehl’s president Chris Salgado was also excited about their new location, noting how intense the process was to open. “This is our sixth free-standing store on the island of Manhattan— and a long time coming,” he told StyleBlazer. “There’s so much security that had to go around all the construction, so it’s probably the safest place to be in all the world, right where we’re standing. We felt as a company that’s born and bred in New York for 165 years, that we had to be at World Trade. It was not a question. New York is our home and family, and we’re fiercely proud to be here.”
For those of you interested in the architecture: The Oculus (white structure that houses the transportation tunnel) was designed by internationally acclaimed architect Santiago Calatrava and provides connections to 13 subway/PATH trains, as well as many of the ferries coming and going from Manhattan to New Jersey and Brooklyn.
As of today, it is the tallest building in the Western Hemisphere.
