StyleBlazin’ News: Solange Knowles Says She’s Not the VP of Natural Hair & More in Her Twitter Rant!

The internet better leave Solange Knowles and her hair alone.  Apparently #teamnatural has been criticizing the singer’s curls on her Instagram account, as well as in comments under blog posts featuring pics of the star.  So naturally (no pun intended) she took to her Twitter account to vent her frustrations. Check out the screen caps.

Hmm…we can definitely feel where she’s coming from.

Are people too judgmental when it comes to natural hair? Sound off!

because natural hair in the US is so new and uncharted for most black american women, you want someone who embodies this HUGE change in your life (its not just your appearance, for me it hasn’t been anyway). so we’re searching for an affirmation of what many of us know already, WE’RE NATURALLY GORGEOUS! when i post natural info on FB, my relaxed friends take offense. its never my personal intention to make someone feel they dont know what’s best for them, BUT i do hope to inform/inspire someone else who may have been thinking about it. as a natural in a city that (Memphis) that really is NOT ready for this drastic change, i KNOW the stares, snickers, and ignorant comments all too well (from relaxed black women), so its sensitive on both sides…

Look on YouTube for “kimmaytube’s leave-in conditioner” Kimmaytube closed the video b/c she’s coming out with her own line soon, but others have uploaded testimonials on how well it works.

If you want your hair to look/be shinny/soft and healthy. Have you ever tried spraying your hair with any leave-in hair detangling product after washing it? Use a good moisturizing shampoo/conditioner for dry hair. Towel dry till the hair is damp not dripping water after you shampoo/condition. Then spray it with the hair detangler (leaving it in). Then spay or rub in an olive oil product for the hair. If you want a more defined curl. Brush/pull taught and roll up your hair while it’s still wet. Allow hair to dry with the rollers on. The rollers give your hair a more defined look. If you want a more natural look. Forget the rollers and allow you hair to AIR dry. No blow drying. Olive oil keeps the hair from looking dry/getting frizzy. You should also notice a difference in the texture of you hair by using the hair detangler. Especially if you live in an area that has hard water (lots of chemicals in it). Hope you find this helpful.

So says who? Your own hair is not new you are born with it. Its not new its just people have been brainwashed into thinking its not good, healthy or what is fashionable in society. And its not natural hair is just YOUR HAIR, when are people going to learn that!

Without being able to access the article she’s referring to (the entire link is not provided here) I don’t know entirely what she’s talking about when she says she agrees with it. However I can say she put herself out there by being a Carol’s Daughter model and by talking about her natural hair several times in different articles. At the same time, she’s entitled to not talk about it anymore if she don’t wanna *shrug*.

She has every right….If people had minds of there own they wouldn’t worry so much about what the next person is thinking. SMH….You go Solo!

  • Jennifer

People have a lot of nerve. Who decided that because someone is natural they have to do twistouts??? #getalife

  • Layluh

Well I think wat works for u is you and I think beyonce has something to do it about when they ask her about her sister wearing weaves then said be natural

  • sweet_lies

i like the fact that she says that her hair is not very important to her. for many black women, their lives revolve around their hair. it’s unfortunate, and it’s a biproduct of the society we live in. we all just need to let it go!

  • Janay

She is saying she is not her hair. I feel what she is saying but I don’t think hair, make up and other habits of vanity are a black woman thing as much as it is an all, women thing

I THINK SOLANGE LOOKS BEAUTIFUL WITH HER NATURAL HAIR. BETTER THAN HER WEAVE LOVING “BLONDE” SIS!! #jus’ saying!

  • Just2hurtu

Obviously, she no longer wishes to contradict her sister or co-sign her sister’s critics as she HAS done in the past. Smart move, though

  • LULU

Good for Solange. If women want to wear their hair natural good for them. If other choose to relax their hair..good for them. Stop trying to find a role model for YOUR cause and be your own role model!

    • WErBARNONE

      right on!

  • omg did you just say that

Well every once in awhile I myself need a good shampoo!!!!!!

But solange stop hiding behind the fact that beyonce has always gotten more attention from man and in your household!!!!!

  • Whats Normal

I totally understand.her on this one. I get so tired of people trying to control my natural hair. Everyone needs to mind their own business.

  • Wisdom

She is beautiful young woman. People always criticize or negate what they are afraid of. She wears her natural weill. If you have nothing nice or positive to say learn to say nothing.

First of all, what is a twistout??? Then as one of my fellow commenters pointed out – isn’t Solo a spokesperson for CD’s natural hair product. She shouldl have used this opp2promote the product. Anyways she looks gorgeous!!!

I would rather see Solonge with natural hair than the blonde weaves that BeyBey wears.

I’m with Solange on this one. At some point she had to stop talking about her hair. Especially since we (the public) put her on a pedestal she didnt ask to be on. And as a natural myself, I think the natural hair community…scratch that…anybody with hair should
Mind their own business and focus on their own hair journey. Twist outs arent for everybody and not everybody is obsessed with “defined curls”. Hair is hair.

  • Rah Truth

Could she at least just put a comb through it….for me??? smh

    • Annie

Ella, be nice……I get it combs are for straight hair.

      • Ella

No, chic can be used fornatural hair. Its up to the person. I was upset atty the implication that Solange needed to do something to her hair for someone else. sorry for coming of mean.

        • Rah Truth

She looks like she just woke up out of bed and came outside. Isn’t there anything else she can do with it??????

          • Ella

Sorry my auto correct likes to change my words up. I don’t think it looks bad but that’s just our difference of opinions. .apparently she loves it too. And trust me, I’ve been natural — this isn’t just out of bed hair

          • Rah Truth

By the way, my beautiful hair is natural, too. And, I don’t look like I just came in from working in the fields!

        • Rah Truth

You weren’t mean at all. You spoke your mind, which is what more people should do. I still feel like she belongs on the set of The Color Purple. But, that’s my opinion. My own hair is natural. And, I would never step out of the house with it looking anything like that. There are many styles for natural hair other than that “just woke up and go” style Solange chooses to wear. IJS

Looks exactly like Buckwheat from Our Gang (the little rascals).

  • WErBARNONE

looks a mess, like a bird nest

  • Yupyup

Quite honestly, it would be a tribute for Solange to be the VP of natural hair. She’s really not known for anything else other than being Beyonce’s sister. She tried singing and that failed. She tried modeling and that’s not doing too good. Being known for her natural hair is positive and at least gives her media attention.

  • raja

she always talk about natural hair but she would be wearing a wig at the same time.
This is my first time seeing her out with her hair. Normally she wears natural fro wigs.
Some people would thinks it her hair but clearly you can see this is her hair those other
    styles were wigs

  • OVER THIS

if she doesn’t wanna talk about hair then she shouldn’t have signed on with Carol’s Daughter…her hair isn’t important to her YET she’s a spokes woman for a NATURAL hair care product. Save me with this BS Solange. While I feel like ppl shouldn’t tell others how to live or what to look like…YOU SIGNED UP FOR THIS. Eh whatever.

  • bailedex

    Tell em Solo

  • CriticXtreme

I’ve glad it’s not a stinky weave but i wish you would comb it.

IS IT FAKE AGAIN OR NOT? BECAUSE IT ALWAYS IS.

  • Radiant

    Who cares!!

  • dhshsdgt

Im natural and the problem is, for some naturals its very much an obsession. They live, eat breathe researching youtube, doing pre-poos, and twistouts and measuring their hair. So its them that sometimes make being natural almost cliche. Not everyone is natural, permed whatever are obsessed with their hair. Kudos to Solo for speaking on it.

  • SeronicaLake

I know exactly what she means. I shaved my head & went natural. Because I prefer longer hair, I wear wigs until my hair will grow to my desired length. Females with natural hair are always looking and judging my wigs. When I wear my natural hair, bald headed chics have something to say. Black women aka teamNatural are usually just a bunch of bored haters.

I like her music, clothing and hair-style choice and now I like her response to her critics.
