Caribbean Week in NY 2012 Shines Some Sun on the City with Haute Fashion from the Tropics (7 Designers from 7 Islands!)

Caribbean Week in New York 2012 brought some much-needed island fun to our bleaky city last week.  Produced by the Caribbean Tourism Organization, the event is a “celebration of the sights, sounds, colors, culture, and unique vacation experiences of the Caribbean.”  It kicked off on Monday, June 4th, featuring a host of daily events through to Saturday, ending with a fashion show during the Fashion, Trade, & Arts Expo.

Seven dynamic designers, representing seven different Caribbean islands, showed up to show out with collections of colorful, printful, and artful designs that transported the tropics to us.  The lineup included Carolina Frasia of Guyana, Donna Weeks of St. Vincent, Indira Moss of The Bahamas, Yddy Clarus of Guadalupe, Dayanne Danier of Haiti, and Carla Hazel of Dominica.

Check out the fashions from Caribbean Week in New York 2012 in the following pages.

This shows me that you know very little about the industry. None of this is ready to wear line, the Yddy Clarus pieces were exceptional on the runway, and almost all the major houses that are lauded by American consumers have Caribbean designers working for them

only the women from St. Vincents & Haiti seemed to have closed that could actually be purchased by a retailer….Idk what everyone else’s garments were about

I am from the Caribbean and Idon’t know any of those people. Where’s Meiling, Zad and Eastman, Claudia Peagus, The Cloth, or Anya Ayoung Chee even. I saw about 3 designers that were decent. the rest were just trying too hard.
